God’s Groceries is part of our Martha and Mary Ministries at Saint Mary’s.
Our pantry opened June 8, 2008, we started with 12 families. In 2023, we now serve approximately 120 families per month. We are open the third Saturday of each month from 8:00-10:00 a.m. We are not exclusive to Crown Point. Our clients come from surrounding communities as well. Our parish office periodically receives calls during the week from people in need of food and we do our best to accommodate them.
A six-member board oversees this ministry. We average ten volunteers each Friday to fill the bags we distribute Saturday morning. We average twelve volunteers each Saturday to bring the groceries to our clients’ vehicles. Clients receive an appropriate amount of food based on the number of members in their families.
Throughout the year various church Ministries as well as the School host Food Drives to help keep the shelves filled in addtion to our donations from parishioners and local businesses.
